Title South Dakota Penitentiary
Date January 16, 1910
Studio Pearson-Ullberg Co.
Description Black-and-white photographic postcard. The photograph is of the South Dakota Penitentiary. In the foreground is a paved path and a bare tree, with the penitentiary behind. The photograph is surrounded by an uneven white border, thicker on the right side. A caption below the picture reads "South Dakota Penitentiary, Sioux Falls, S.D." The back of the postcard is divided in the center by a thin, double vertical line. Above the line reads "Post Card" in large, bold letters. It is overlapped by a circular blank ink stamp that indicates the time and date of postage. In the lower left corner reads "PEARSON-ULLBERG CO., MINNEAPOLIS" in small print. A paragraph reads vertically on the left, from top to bottom in cursive handwriting, "Sioux Falls, Jan 16 10. Well I am working here now. Received your picture all right and think it fine." The signature is flourished and slightly difficult to read, perhaps "E.E. Hest". The postcard is addressed to Mrs. Lennie Dedrick, Brodhead, Wis" A green, one-cent postage stamp is in the upper right corner with the profile of Benjamin Franklin on it. It is overlapped by a black ink stamp of a waving flag. The black ink stamps on the back have somewhat seeped through the front.
