Title United States and Territories
Scope & Content A large wall map of the United States and Territories. The map is colorized and printed on paper. The paper is adhered to a piece of linen. The top edge of the map was stapled to a piece of wood (wood is missing). The bottom edge of the map is nailed to a wooden dowel. The map was generated by the U.S. Department of the Interior. In addition to showing the United States and territories, it also shows public surveys, Indian, military and forest reservations, railroads, canals, and so on. The map clearly outines individual states, and shows towns, cities, waterways, oceans, the Great Lakes, part of Mexico, British possessions (Canada), and so on. Territories seen include Forbes Purchase, the Territory of Oklahoma, and Indian Territory (eastern Oklahoma). Reservations seen include the White Mountain Indian Reservation, Moqui Indian Reservation, Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Rosebud Indian Reservation, Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, and so on. The piece was most likely a school wall map.
